Participation in REAIM Summit Spain 2026


Dr. Anum A. Khan participated in the REAIM Summit 2026, held in A Coruña, Spain from 4–5 February 2026. The summit, jointly organized by the Government of Spain and the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research, brought together global policymakers, researchers, and practitioners to deliberate on the responsible use of artificial intelligence in the military domain.
As part of the international expert community, Dr. Anum A. Khan contributed to high-level discussions on the AI–nuclear nexus, with a particular focus on strategic stability in South Asia. Drawing on insights from prior regional consultations and her research expertise, she highlighted the growing risks associated with the integration of AI into nuclear command, control, and communication (NC3) systems, including challenges related to decision-making speed, automation bias, and escalation dynamics.
Her intervention emphasized the critical role of multistakeholder engagement, advocating for inclusive governance frameworks that incorporate perspectives from the Global South. She underscored the importance of developing norms, confidence-building measures, and accountability mechanisms to ensure that emerging technologies do not undermine strategic stability or crisis management processes.
Dr. Khan’s participation reflects her continued engagement in global policy dialogues on emerging technologies and security, and reinforces her commitment to advancing responsible, inclusive, and risk-informed approaches to AI governance in the military domain.
