Dr Anum A. Khan Participates in Global Conference on AI, Security and Ethics in Geneva
Geneva, June 2026 – Dr. Anum A. Khan, Executive Director of the Network for Security, Strategy and Technology (NESST), participated in the Global Conference on AI, Security and Ethics 2026, organized by the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR) in Geneva on 18–19 June 2026.
Held immediately following the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA) Informal Exchanges on Artificial Intelligence in the Military Domain, the conference brought together diplomats, government officials, military practitioners, international organizations, academia, civil society, industry, and leading researchers to discuss the governance, security, and ethical implications of artificial intelligence.
Throughout the conference, Dr. Khan engaged with participants from across regions, exchanging perspectives on military AI governance, strategic stability, nuclear risk reduction, and emerging technology challenges. She held a series of informal discussions with members of the Roundtable for AI, Security and Ethics (RAISE), as well as representatives of States, international organizations, research institutions, academia, and civil society.
These engagements provided an opportunity to strengthen professional networks, exchange views on current policy developments, and explore avenues for future collaboration on responsible AI governance and international security. Discussions covered a range of issues, including military applications of AI, governance frameworks, implementation of international norms, regional security dynamics, and the importance of ensuring that diverse regional perspectives, particularly those from the Global South, contribute to ongoing international policy processes.
Dr. Khan’s participation also complemented her engagement at the preceding UNODA Informal Exchanges, where she contributed to multilateral discussions on the implications of artificial intelligence in the military domain. Together, the two events provided valuable opportunities to engage with both formal diplomatic processes and broader multi-stakeholder dialogues on the future of AI governance.
Commenting on the conference, Dr Khan noted:
